CMA CGM Acquires a 35% Stake in the October Dry Port

The Economic Concentration Review Committee of the Egyptian Competition Authority has approved the request submitted by CMA CGM Inland Services to acquire a 35% stake in October Dry Port.

CMA CGM signed the acquisition agreement last April with El Sewedy Electric, during the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Egypt.

CMA CGM is one of the world’s largest shipping and logistics companies. In Egypt, the group already operates Tahya Misr Container Terminal in Alexandria Port and is developing a new terminal in Ain Sokhna, expected to open in 2026.

According to the committee’s statement, this transaction grants CMA CGM joint control over October Dry Port.

October Dry Port is Egypt’s first dry port developed under a public-private partnership model. It began official operations in November 2023, developed by El Sewedy Electric in cooperation with the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports, and financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The port was established as part of the Egyptian government’s plan to develop 31 dry ports and logistics centers nationwide, with the goal of reducing congestion at seaports and speeding up customs clearance times.
