Maersk Announces Adjustment to Peak Season Surcharge

Maersk has announced an adjustment to the Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for shipments from Far East Asia to the Mediterranean (E2W - FEA to MED).

Effective from 15 July 2025 (Price Calculation Date - PCD), the new surcharge rates will apply as follows:

Updated PSS Rates (USD per container):
  • 20ft Dry: $250
  • 40ft Dry: $500
  • 20ft Reefer: $250
  • 40ft Reefer / 45ft Dry: $500

This adjustment follows a previous rate of $500 for 20ft containers and $1,000 for 40ft, and reflects Maersk’s ongoing efforts to optimize pricing during peak season while maintaining reliable service levels.

The surcharge applies where contractually relevant and will appear on invoices based on the shipment's price calculation date.

Following a recent adjustment on 15 July 2025, Maersk has announced a new update to its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) structure, effective 28 July 2025. The new revision introduces lower PSS rates for shipments from Far East Asia to Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Israel, and Ukraine, bringing the surcharge down to:

  • $50 for 20ft containers

  • $100 for 40ft / 45ft containers

For shipments to other Mediterranean ports, the previous rates remain unchanged at $250 (20ft) and $500 (40ft/45ft).

This update builds on the earlier adjustment made on 15 July 2025, when Maersk had standardized the PSS to $250 and $500 for all destinations in the region. The newly announced changes now reflect a more destination-specific approach, aiming to support trade with high-volume or strategic markets while maintaining reliable service across the network.
