The Egyptian Customs Authority has issued a new circular specifying the types of cameras that must be referred to the Public Security Sector before customs release. According to the circular, this covers cameras disguised as pens, watches or fire alarm devices, as well as wired and wireless pinhole cameras used for covert surveillance. Mobile phone cameras imported as production inputs are exempt from referral to the Public Security Sector, simplifying release procedures for these shipments. The clarification forms part of wider efforts to regulate import procedures and define the items requiring security approvals before customs release.
